OSHEAN Membership Enables Rhode Island College to Experience Benefits of Accordent Solution for Providing an Online Archive of Lectures and Events for State-Wide Access

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., – July 28, 2009 – Accordent Technologies announced today that Rhode Island College is using its Accordent Capture Station and Accordent Media Management System to capture lectures and campus events and share them with audiences online via a searchable online portal.

Rhode Island College began to look for a lecture capture solution when the school received state funding to enhance education programs for prospective and in-service teachers in Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM disciplines). RIC planned to use the lecture capture solution to extend audiences for STEM courses and events to include teachers and students at K-12 schools through the state.

RIC chose the Accordent Capture StationTM because it met the school’s requirements for “two-button” operation: RIC wanted teachers and students to be able to operate the ACS units themselves, using Crestron automation systems that were installed in the classrooms. The ACS also met RIC’s requirements for being able to capture archives from video conference end points.

Another key factor was the ability for the Accordent Capture Station to integrate with the centralized content management and search capabilities of the Accordent Media Management SystemTM(AMMS). RIC had experienced the Accordent capture-to-management workflow solution through OSHEAN – a New England-based consortium that provides Internet-based technology solutions (including the Accordent products) to its university, hospital and other non-profit organizations. As an OSHEAN member, RIC is able to maintain its own content folder on the OSHEAN AMMS to which it posts archived rich media and video conference presentations and makes them available for instructors and students to access online.
