Accordent, TANDBERG to Deliver Online Communications System for North Shore-LIJ
Integrated Solution Converts Video Conferencing End Points into Broadcast Studios, Enables Centralized Content Management, Viewer Tracking and Reporting
EL SEGUNDO, Calif., June 24, 2009 – The North Shore-LIJ Health System will use a joint solution from Accordent Technologies and TANDBERG that will enable trainers to use video conferencing units to deliver live or on-demand webcast presentations to more than 35,000 staff members.
North Shore-LIJ will use the solution to reduce the cost and complexity of administering continuing professional education programs required for staff certification. Key functional areas of the solution include:
Distributed Content Creation: By enabling trainers to webcast from existing end points, the solution will be substantially more efficient than the current, classroom-based system, which requires subject matter experts to travel between 14 New York-area hospitals, and to repeat training sessions for absent or shift-based employees;
Centralized Content Management, Viewer Tracking and Reporting: By integrating the management, search, online testing and viewer tracking and reporting capabilities of the Accordent Media Management System (AMMS) with the automated video conference capture and streaming archive capabilities of the TANDBERG Content Server (TCS), the solution provides an automated, unified workflow for: archiving video conferences using TCS, detecting and ingesting TCS-created content into the AMMS, carrying over content metadata to ensure proper categorization and searchability, and tracking how viewers are consuming the TCS-archived content;
Online Certification and Testing: Since the archived TCS content will be tracked through the AMMS, North Shore-LIJ will be able to precisely track and report on which viewers watched which piece of content, for how long and their workgroup or geographic origin. North Shore-LIJ also plans to leverage the AMMS online testing and certification capabilities to award Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits entirely online.
“Training requirements for health care providers are extensive and grow daily. There simply is no way to create enough timely, relevant content without empowering and teaching our professional staff to create their own high-quality content,” said Dennis Skahill, North Shore-LIJ Studios. “Bringing together Accordent and TANDBERG produces very empowering technology that allows our trainers to create their own webcasts - using technology we have already deployed - and we can monitor, test and track all activity via a single management system.”
