Accordent CTO Michael Lorenz Honored As One Of Streaming Industry's Most Influential People

Lorenz is One of 25 Chosen by Editors of Streaming Media Magazine as Making the Most Significant Contribution to the Industry over the Last Decade

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., April 11, 2008 – Accordent Technologies, Inc., today celebrated the selection of its Chief Technology Officer, Michael Lorenz, by the editorial staff of Streaming Media Magazine as a Streaming Media All Star: an award that recognizes the top 25 people who have had the most significant impact in the field based on technological innovation, business acumen, or a commitment to advancing online video since the early stages of the technology's adoption.

"We weren't interested in giving attention to the people who’ve already gotten credit in the eyes of the public," said Streaming Media editor Eric Schumacher-Rasmussen. "Instead, we wanted to honor the people who've been doing the work in the trenches, the ones who've been around since the beginning and stuck with online video even when it was an uphill battle." While future All-Star teams will highlight current leaders in the industry, the magazine's staff wanted the inaugural team to reflect a historical perspective.

"I suppose if you extend the baseball metaphor, these 25 people would really make up the streaming media hall of fame," says Schumacher-Rasmussen.

Lorenz co-founded Accordent Technologies in 1999 with CEO, Mike Newman, and SVP of Sales, Jereme Pitts, and was the primary architect for the company's award-winning rich media creation and management products. A technology visionary, Lorenz' pioneering work led to Accordent's recent grant of US Patent number 7,299,289 for developing – in 2000 – a core process in the creation of synchronized rich media communications that include streaming media and a wide array of supplemental graphics and interactive information.

This technology, that has since been widely adopted by corporations, educational institutions and public sector organizations, for corporate communications, distance learning and training, has played a significant role in facilitating streaming media adoption by adapting often lengthy, "talking head" videos into practical, graphically enriched, chaptered, interactive rich media communications.

The winners will be announced in the April/May 2008 issue of the magazine, which also celebrates ten years of StreamingMedia.com and the Streaming Media conferences and trade shows. The awards will be given at the Streaming Media East show, where Accordent will exhibit (booth #107) May 21-22nd at the New York Hilton in New York City.
