Streaming Video-Based Training and Integrated Online Testing to Automate Police Certification and Reporting in State of Illinois

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., – January 26, 2010 – The College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, has rolled out an innovative online training program that enables police officers and cadets in the State of Illinois to enhance their professional credentials via an online multimedia training and testing system provided by Accordent Technologies.

Using the Accordent solution, the college’s Multimedia Services team captures and publishes multimedia presentations from live classroom sessions, from its on-campus studio, and from on-location re-enactments of incidents that have led to court decisions. The presentations, which contain streaming video synchronized with slides and other visuals shown during training, are then posted to the school’s “Traineeze” digital training materials website for authorized viewers to access.

The law enforcement program - which is a partnership of the Multimedia Services team, The Suburban Law Enforcement Academy and the College of DuPage Press - enables law enforcement staff to train at their own pace at a fraction of the cost of traditional, classroom-based instruction. Officers and cadets can apply credits towards their law enforcement education or professional certification programs, and can use the certificates to showcase proficiency in rapidly changing legal procedures – such as proper search and seizure.

The Traineeze website leverages Accordent PresenterPRO™ to create the rich media presentations, and the Accordent Media Management System™ (AMMS) to manage, secure, and deliver the online materials as well as to administer and report testing and certification.

Viewers log in to the AMMS, watch the video-based training segments appropriate to their profile, and are served a multiple choice exam to test their mastery of the subject matter. If the viewer meets the pass threshold in the time allotted, they are automatically issued a personalized certificate of completion.

The College of DuPage Multimedia Services team also offers an eight-part online training program for small businesses. Covering topics from inventory management to marketing, the Small Business program offers time-pressed business owners an online alternative to the college’s popular, one-day seminars.
